Please tell me how to make a quilt of old baby clothes-just squares, nothing fancy.?
Please help! I have all these baby clothes that I don't have the heart to donate (they are the ones I couldn't part with) and instead of keeping them in storage I'd like to make just a simple square quilt with all of them. Can you please send some simple instructions? I have a sewing machine, and can only really sew a straight line and really don't know how to use a pattern. I'd like to just cut them into squares and sew them together. Any easy guidance on this? I'd truly appreciate it! Thanks!
It sounds to me like you already know what to do. Open up hems and seams and iron all those pieces. You may want to remove elastic, but you can probably cut and work around most of that. Remove all the buttons or zippers, but buttonholes might be kind of interesting. Since you don't have a zig zag to close those up, stitch a piece of fabric behind any button holes. Cut the pieces in squares, as many of the same size as you can. "Pro" quilters stich them together using 1/4 in. seams, but you can use larger seams. Be sure all your seams a the same depth, so your squares stay square. Straight stitching is perfect, no fancy stitches needed. If you have designs and appliques on some of the clothes, try to center them in a square as you cut. Or cut them out and make another applique for a square you do have. For a border, open up the sleeves, cut those in long rectangles, sew them end to end. Or cut long rectangles from pant legs. Try to balance colors and textures. When you're happy with your 'top' quilt, add some batting to the back side, stich it down and then add a backing, like baby flannel, or soft cotton. Sounds like you will have a beautiful keepsake when you're done. Happy stitching, Joanne

how long does it take to free motion quilt
How long does it take to quilt an entire quilt top with a long arm quilting machine? I am looking for an estimate for a standard double quilt with a simple stiple. Thanks
To just do an mid-size overall stipple should not take longer than 8 working hours. I did not figure in the time it takes to get the quilt layered on the frame and breakes the quilter will take (not to get to tense standing behind the frame).
If you are asking this, because you want somebody to do the quilting for you, check around to see how different quilters price their work and ask to look at samples of their work. Best way to get references is to check local quilt shops (most of them have business cards of local longarm quilters). Most quilters don't charge by time, but calculate by design and square inch. A simple design (overall stipple or pantograph) will cost you less per square inch than a custom quilt job.
I just randomly selected a site on the web where you can see an example of how a quilter will price their work:

For myself I found it cheapest to purchase my own mid arm machine that I use as a table top set-up to do my own quilting. The machine has paid for itself after custom quilting three large quilt tops.
I bought my Juki from: http://sewunbelievable.com/
I know not everybody wants to quilt their own tops, but I like to finish my quilts from start to finish and as I said, by now the machine has paid for itself.

Where can I find inexpensive shower curtains?
to be used for the backing for adult clothing protectors (Adult Bibs) for nursing home patients. I am also looking for clean mattress pads to be used as batting for lap size quilts for wheelchair patients. Thank You!
i see shower liners for only $2.00 at big lots or try some dollar stores. for your use i would check out the thrift stores u never know what u can find there. you can catch them on clearance at times at some of the higher end stores.

What do you think of this quilt? Honestly?
It's not (sewn yet) so just based on the colors/fabric chosen. I still have time to pull off the yellow.
Is the yellow too overpowering for a baby quilt?
I was thinking to remove them and replace with more George squares, for a pattern of double George's wherever theres yellow...what do you think?
Also, is it too long? The squares are 5 inches, the sashing is just shy of 2 inches and these are pre-sewn measurements and it'll be sewn with quarter inch seams.

Its for a baby, theyre sposed to like bright colors. I just dont care for all the yellow myself and want to replace it with more blue squares.
I definitely don't want brown on it, though.
i like it how it is ..
i didnt read all the question before looking at the pic and my first response was .. its bright , thats good for babies .
