I don't know what sewing machine is better, Husqvana SE or Bernina 730?

This is almost like when you purchase an auto....personal preference. Best bet would be to go to your local dealers and have a try at both brands. Or go to your local fabric outlet and talk to the ladies about what each brand offers that would suit your needs.

Which vintage lightweight ELNA sewing machine Model is TOP of the Range?

I want to buy a lightweight portable vintage Elna...so Im wondering which one is the premium model...I thought it might be a Lotus SP but not sure...can anyone help? thanks!

That's a very nice little machine... all of the Lotus models were slightly different, but the SP is quite useful.

The TSP had 8 stitches, so some might call it top of the range.

Sewing Machines for beginners?

I have read all the comments on sewing machines and it seems everyone thinks the janome is the best for beginners.I am also thinking of going to a dealer but is having mixed feelings because the janome is quite different from juki which i use in school. I was wondering does it matter what kind of machine you use as a beginner and if the janome could be used to make ready-to-wear clothing.

If you're used to Jukis, I don't think you'll find Janome really much different, unless you're sewing on industrials at school. Juki home sewing machines are not widely distributed in the US; Janomes are.

Beginners often need a bit more hand holding and
"how to use a sewing machine" than someone who's had a bit of experience needs -- it's easier to find someone selling Janome who can do that for you. But you may not need it.

I don't have a lot of experience with Juki home sewing machines-- basically some trial sewing at a trade show. I just don't know how to evaluate their durability without more experience, but what I saw I liked. (And fwiw, I think Juki makes some of the best home sergers -- and I own one and use it all the time.) Generally, school machines are tough as nails, so if your school is using Jukis, I'd guess they're fairly durable.

Why not go try some Janomes at a dealer, and try some more Jukis, too, if you can. Then make up your mind. That's why dealers offer demonstrators.

And if your budget stretches some more, try some of the higher end sewing machines, too, from brands like Viking, Bernina, Pfaff.... see what suits the way you use a machine. I, for instance, have never met a Viking or Pfaff that didn't feel familiar to me the minute I started to sew on them. Berninas, which are very good machines indeed, are just enough "wrong" for me that I feel like I've got 10 thumbs when sewing on them. It's like buying shoes... I may know your size, but I can't judge for you if a particular shoe is going to fit your foot. You're going to have to try it on to find out.

How to wash a vintage quilt?

It is light, and from the 60's. It is a pastel color, mostly green and white. It is very difficult because some fall decorations. But I have to wash, because I was making my bed and cut my fingers without realizing it and bled on my quilt in several places. "I can washed and dried in conventional machine, or I have to do this in a special way?

If you insist your quilt, do not throw in the washer. If you have a quilt shop in your town, take the blanket with you if you know someone who could fix it before trying to attempt to wash. Then see if they sell something called "Orvis quilt mass. "This is very concentrated so use a little. If the quilt is fragile, just soak in the tub with cold water with dissolved Orvis first. a Torsion-free water flows. To dry, hang on the cover (no direct sun) or flat, with a blade on each side of it. Put your blood, you may have to soak for a while or gently rub some cream in Orvis.

Where can I get information on an antique Singer sewing machine, serial number G9219103?

I have recently aquired an antique singer sewing machine. I believe it is a model 127. It does have the "long bobbin". It is in a wooden rounded top case. It is not a treadle machine. It has an electric motor attached to an arm that "swings" to the back for operation. (otherwise when it is not in use, the arm allows the motor to swing inside the arm of the machine to secure the cover. I think Singer came out with some kind of conversion kit for treadles and hand cranks around 1919? I can't find any information on a machine that has this kind of attached motor.

Yours is a Model 15 (close to a model 127) made on Dec. 30, 1910 at St. Johns, Quebec, Canada.
I hope its nice. Only the very nice ones are rare.

who knows about abm innova quilting machine?

I'm shopping for a long arm quilting. Has anyone purchased ABM's Innova and how do you like it? Is it a quality machine and how good is the company to work with for support? I am particularly interested in the stitch regulation feature. Does Innova sew steady and within the count?

I suggest looking for someone who sells this set-up so you can take a "drive". There are usually demos at quilt & sewing expos. What is comfortable for one person may not suit your needs.

I tried a long arm with the stitch regulator last year at an expo and it was soooo cool. I did not make a purchase (I tend to be addicted to sewing machines AND my husband keeps a sharp eye on me). I cannot remember the brand and did not keep a brochure.

Brother LS-2125 sewing machine?

This is my first sewing machine... I can't get the needle to raise all the way up. I've turned the wheel all the way and it feels stuck.
What can I do to make it go up? Is it completely broken?

Make sure the bobbin winder is not engaged.

Open the bobbin case and check to see if there is thread wrapped around the mechanism.

Remove the needle.

Check your manual to see how the needle goes into the shaft.

Make sure the set screw is open far enough to let the needle go all the way into the shaft.

There is a flat side to the top of the needle - this is what you need to make sure is goes in correctly.

Be sure the bobbin thread is coming off the bobbin in the correct direction and is feeding through the proper guides.

If still doesn't work correctly, a repair person will need to take a look at it.

Once this is working - be sure the presser foot is up every time you thread the machine, not just the needle - from spool to needle the threading process requires that the presser foot be in the up position for the tension to work properly.
