bug sting - should I go to the hospital?

Yesterday I was walking in the park and something hurt my foot.
I took the stinger out. It's not a hornet since they don't leave singers, and its not a bee because the stinger was very small and red.

Yes, it wouldn't hurt to see what stung you and if it was poisonous. The swelling and pain seems like the stinger left something venomous or it infected. Sometimes people have an allergic reaction to any bite and that is worth looking into an answer from a professional at the emergency center.

What is a good sewing machine to make leather jackets?

My hobby is making leather jackets with an old Singer 201. I would like to buy an industrial sewing machine that will make it easier to sew leather jackets but i'm not sure which one to get. Sometimes I run into problems sewing seams or sewing on the zipper because there are too many layers of leather to sew though. A lot of sellers show pictures of their machine sewing through 4 layers of leather. Thats no problem for a Singer 201 but when the seams are bent, the leather is harder to sew through. For example, when I am sewing on a zipper, I have to sew through 4 layers of leather along the edge. I'm using horsehide right now so I need a strong machine.

What is the best sewing machine for my needs?

I will be designing and making clothes and doing alterations. I want a really reliable machine. And will spend up to around $800. I also will need a serger. I will not be doing any quilting on the machine most likely. I have heard Brother, Janome, and Juki are pretty good. And that the newer model Singer machines aren't the best.
What brand would be the best and if you can tell me a particular model, that would be excellent.
I can allow about $300-400 for a serger.

Personally, I like Juki sergers -- they show their industrial roots, but are easy to work with. And the prices are reasonable.

For sewing machines, I prefer Bernina, Elna, Pfaff and Viking (in alphabetical order). Janome is just a smidge behind that in preference, and Singer is... well, Singers are not what they once were. Go, test, and see what suits. I require good utility stitches, a way of making decent buttonholes that doesn't drive me nuts, and adjustable presser foot pressure. I prefer an electronic machine because you get the full force of the stepper or servo motors driving the needle even at very slow speeds that would stall a conventional motor... but you should try and find the machine that fits you.

If the $800 has to cover both serger and sewing machine, look at used sewing machines and new sergers.

me? I sew on a 12 year old midline Viking electronic that's performed flawlessly, backed up by a 1954 Singer 15 for dirty jobs. And a Juki 2/3/4/5 thread serger (MO655) and a Bernina 009D coverlock I've worn out two sewing machines and a serger over the years.

What is the best sewing machine for Heavy Duty Sewing.?

I want to purchase a new sewing machine and need one that will handle thick fabric. I sew mainly drapes and bedding for my home. I have been sewing for about 20 years and have yet to find a sewing machine that I love. I bought a Juki industrial last year only to find that it was way too fast for me. I need the ability to slow the machine down for more intricate sewing. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'm a Bernina sewing machine technician and I would suggest you stay away from machines that run with a belt. Go with an older strictly gear driven machine. There are many on eBay and usually (but not always) the price is a bit higher. A Singer 201 is a good one as is a Singer 401. Phaff has some, Husquavarna.But most any gear driven machine that has been serviced by a good tech will work the best for you. Oh, and a strong motor. Be sure that any tabletop machine you might get has at least a 1.0 amp motor. New is definately not better as far as sewing machines. Especially for basic sewing. Mid 1950s and eatrly sixties produced many good ones. Stay with solid metal machines and gear driven. They will most likely outlive us all properly cared for. Good luck to you.

How to thread Viking Emerald 118 Sewing Machine

ISO embroidery machine that quilts with multidirectional sewing and auto thread cut used about $2000?

I have been looking at Bernina Viking and Pfaff... any suggestions?

My Babylock Ellegante does this and there may be an less expensive model of BL that has the same feature.

The Ellegante is a combo sewing/embroidery machine and a new one is around 6K. A used one would be much less.

Visit dealers with your wish list..........Bernina is a great machine, but very expensive, as are the accessories for this brand.

Anyone have any idea which is going to be more useful in the manufacture of handbags?

Considering all the tight spaces and little corners that comprise handbags, a cylinder bed is a far better choice for handbags. Cylinder bed machines also have more needle penetrating power for thicker bag weight leathers. The large bed if a lockstitcher makes small corners and tight turns awkward and frustrating, lockstitchers are best or large or long seams on lighter weight fabrics and garment weight leather. They don't always have the same needle power as cylinders as they are made for speed. You would be wise to test drive both machines on the type of leather you will use in your business, that will give you the best idea of what you need. If you have the resources for both then buying both would be a worthy investment. I have a fashion design studio and I have and use multiple sewing machines for different purposes such as buttonholer, blind hemmer, coverlock, lock-stitch and overlocker.
