What type of machine used quilting frame? What do you like and dislike about it?
I'm looking to expand my quilting supplies and skills .... FreeMotion've been doing quilting and want my own bedsized quilts quilt on my machine at home using a machine quilting. I've looked at the Handiquilter, Pro grace, and some others. What use? What do you think yoru? What is the good, the bad and the ugly! Thanks!
I have a small Gracie II a Janome 1600P-DB machine with a speed control. I can quilt to a quilt of marriage - specifically, I can not make a quilt that is 88 inches wide and over about 100 centimeters. If I have to go longer, I have to give up half way through the quilt, which is a real pain. The advantages of this configuration is that it is an established framework (which sounds obvious, but the frames are a huge blessing for quilting), and relatively cheap. I paid around $ 1300 for the frame and machine combined. However, if I had to do it again, I would save my money and get something with a longer arm and a broader set. I would be able to handle a King Size Quilt, and it is not possible in my setup. My current computer has a 9 "arm, which means that it is a 4" - 5 "area padding at the beginning of the quilt, and about 2 "from the end of the quilt. A 17" arm would allow much more complex patterns of quilting. If you are going to spend money Now, I'd probably go with a Tin Lizzie. It has a large padded area, a large frame, and a stitch regulator. The stitch regulator slows down the speed of the needle down speed, arm movement. Help to keep the length of the stitch, even that is a challenge for a new quilter. It is not cheap at about $ 6,000, but it's good Overall, solid top.
