Janome Decor Computer 2010 Sewing Machine

is it easier to learn to sew on a mechanical or computerized sewing machine?
It really depends on how "tech-savvy" you are. If you are comfortable with all sorts of tech marvels and at least familiar with the basic workings of a sewing machine, you should do fine with a computerized machine. The computerized machine doesn't really make the act of sewing easier, it just increases the options you have (stitch type, stitch length, can adjust for thread thickness, automatic tension adjustment, etc) . Think of it as the difference between a "point and click" camera versus a 35-mm. Each has it's application, but the 35-mm allows you more control over the many variables of taking a picture.
Before you decide, you might want to ask yourself what your primary use of your new machine will be - that can help guide you. If you want to do fancy stitches and embroidery, say logos or pictures on shirts, then you certainly want to consider the computerized machines more seriously. But, if you primarily want to use it to learn a craft, say making costumes, quilting, or light sewing around the house (curtains, pillows, etc), then a mechanical machine will do great for you and you can put the money into buying a very good machine.
If you are learning, I would avoid buying a used or older machine unless you go to a fabric store and can be sure the machine has been fully checked and serviced before you buy. Nothing can stop a beginning sewer in her/his tracks faster than machine problems - as a beginner, I didn't sew for nearly 8 years after my first experiences because it was so frustrating and I didn't realize the problem was the machine, not me!
Brother and Janome make good mid-expense mechanical machines, and Brother also makes computerized machines. You can pick up a solid new machine for under $400 in most cases.
I'd suggest locating a fabric store near you to see if you can "test drive" some of the machines. The folks at these shops are very helpful whether you buy there or not, and if you do end up buying there they often include free lessons along with your purchase!
