Where can I get information on an antique Singer sewing machine, serial number G9219103?
I have recently aquired an antique singer sewing machine. I believe it is a model 127. It does have the "long bobbin". It is in a wooden rounded top case. It is not a treadle machine. It has an electric motor attached to an arm that "swings" to the back for operation. (otherwise when it is not in use, the arm allows the motor to swing inside the arm of the machine to secure the cover. I think Singer came out with some kind of conversion kit for treadles and hand cranks around 1919? I can't find any information on a machine that has this kind of attached motor.
Yours is a Model 15 (close to a model 127) made on Dec. 30, 1910 at St. Johns, Quebec, Canada.
I hope its nice. Only the very nice ones are rare.
Cool anyway.

who knows about abm innova quilting machine?
I'm shopping for a long arm quilting. Has anyone purchased ABM's Innova and how do you like it? Is it a quality machine and how good is the company to work with for support? I am particularly interested in the stitch regulation feature. Does Innova sew steady and within the count?
I suggest looking for someone who sells this set-up so you can take a "drive". There are usually demos at quilt & sewing expos. What is comfortable for one person may not suit your needs.
I tried a long arm with the stitch regulator last year at an expo and it was soooo cool. I did not make a purchase (I tend to be addicted to sewing machines AND my husband keeps a sharp eye on me). I cannot remember the brand and did not keep a brochure.

Is there such a thing as a presser foot with a 1/2" guide for a sewing machine?
I know quilters use a foot with a 1/4" guide, so I was hoping there'd be SOMETHING out there that I can use for a 1/2" guide?!!?
Viking has a clear seam guide foot that has marks up to 5/8. There's also a gadget called a magnetic seam guide that might work for your needs (http://www.ruthsewingroom.com/catalog.htm ).

How do I run on hills better?
I seriously need help with running hills. my cross country course has a giant hill which while you run it you zig-zag up and down 6 times. that happens twice, once in the beginning and near the end. its a sharp grade, possibly in some parts bigger than a 50% grade. while coming back, my right foot bent the wrong way pretty far and I had to deal with that the last quarter mile where I usually sprint. how can I prevent that.
its a 5K course, first mile was in 7:15, second in 7:24, third in 8:11. does anyone know a good way to keep up the pace? I constantly find myself slowing down and have to speed up to compensate.
FIrst I have read there is research that says you shouldn't "attack" hills early in the race. You build up too much lactic acid in your muscles and it hurts you from then on.
For hill running, I recommend the following:
1) Try to keep your leg cadence and breathing the same as it was on the flat. That means that you will have to take smaller strides.
Shorter strides mean that your legs stay closer to being under your center of gravity which makes them more efficient in lifting your weight.
2) Exagerate your arm swing. Swing your arms so that your hands come up to eye level. When you do that you end up getting more knee lift
3) When you get to the crest of the hill, get back into your normal stride as soon as possible.
If you are indeed running up a 50% grade, that's steeper than a standard staircase. There is no way that you are going to maintain your pace going up it.

Quilters, can you machine quilt with cotton batting?
I've always used low-loft polyester batting. Will cotton batting work with a standard sewing machine (not a long arm)? The quilt will be for twin size bed.
I am not a long term quilter, but on my first quilt I used Warm and Natural (cotton) with my cotton fabrics. It was easy as pie to get it to lay straight and even, and easy to quilt. It was a baby quilt but held together beautifully. I used a low loft poly one for the second one and had a terrible time getting it flat and straight. It turned out all right but I spent much more time pinning the poly than spraying with basting spray and getting the cotton layers even
