how can I fix my sewing machine?
I have a singer sewing machine. When I turn it on I can hear the gears moving but nothing happens. I think the belt has come loose. It's a CG 500 commercial grade singer. I just need to know if anyone else hashad that happen to their machine and if I can fix it. I work alot of hours and all the repair centers are closed when I am out of work, otherwise I would just take one there. Is it safe to take my baby apart. The reason I bought it was because of the all motor workings, thought I could work on it myself, but I don't want to damage anything. Thank you, I hope that I can find an answer.
could be the belt...
does it need oil?
could it be a burned-out motor?
is there thread entangled behind where the bobbin goes or under the needle plate?; this could bring everything to a halt.
do you have it on the correct setting (sometimes this happens to me when I don't return it totally from the bobbin winding setting)
When this happens to me I first try turning off the machine and completely starting over: rewinding the bobbin, re-threading and resetting the the stitch settings, etc.... be methodical and patient. ...could just be a threat entangled somewhere.
...then...if you're a mechanical person you could try taking it apart and checking it out, cleaning and re-oiling as you go (every where metal touches metal). If you're not a mechanical person, you may need to have machine serviced; you don't want to risk electrocution!
note that some sewing stores provide machine servicing... just leave it off at your convenience and the repair person will pick it up, repair it and return it to the store for you to pick-up, again, at your convenience.
