Alternative for t-shirt quilt stabilizer?
I was going to make a quilt with old jeans, red plaids, and some grey t-shirts. I have already cut out all the pieces but my mom told me that I couldn't use the t-shirts, unless I had the fabric stablilizer to iron on the back.
This wouldn't be too difficult, although I have already cut the t-shirts up, all the pieces are not too small and square or rectangle. I really like the soft feel with the cotton and denim but do not want to spend the money on a fabric stabilizer- is there something else I can use?
You can cut a piece of muslin the same size as the t-shirt material and use a temporary basting spray while you sew everything together. But I understand your mother's point. The t-shirts are going to stretch against the heavier non-stretcing denim...

Any quilt store (or joann fabrics) would be able to direct you to an appropriate product. What you probably want is a "woven fusible interfacing." It also depends on how you plan to quilt it. If you are going to tie it or machine quilt then the iron on stuff will be fine. Some people don't like it for hand quilting, it creates a resistance which is not good for an already tedious task... With the right product you may be able to keep that soft feel you like.
