Quilting and machine embroidery together?
I have all the squares cut out for my rag quilt. I want to add some machine embroidery to a few of the blocks such as football designs, etc. Would I do the machine embroidery first before I sew the blocks together? What kind of stabilizer should I use? Cutaway?

Actually, you should do the machine embroidery before cutting the blocks as the embroidery may reduce the overall size of the block.
For heavy designs (lots of stitches) use a medium weight cut away fabric.
If the blocks are flannel or home spun, baste the fabric to the stabilizer. You can do this with the running stitch frame that should be one of the built-in designs on the machine. Refer to your manual.
