How do you sew scalloped edges on a serger?
Hello! I am sewing chiffon fabric and need a small, scalloped edge on the bottom. I was wondering how I go about doing this? I'm on the rolled hem setting and own a Janome Harmony 9102D. Thank you!
Difficult to do on a home serger -- easy if you had the right Merrow machine. I'd make a shell stitch on a sewing machine instead of serging: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/3744/mastering-the-narrow-hemmer-part-one
Or are you talking about a lettuce edge? In which case, set the differential of the serger to as far towards "stretch" as you can -- I'm not sure what the markings would be on a Janome, but it's probably -. Stretch the hem as you serge, and use a short stitch length.
Practice on scraps on the same grainline as the hem -- some fabrics do not "lettuce" well.
