How much should I pay for a QUALITY new sewing machine?
I want to buy a new sewing machine - not one of those cheapo ones that are under $100 and break easily. What would be the price of a HIGH QUALITY heavy duty sewing machine, on average?
sometimes, you get a better machine used... for instance, I see really good Husqvarna Vikings (6000 series) on ebay for about $200 with upto 10 different cams for decorative stitches. These are good, solid machines that are made mostly with metal parts. They do all their stitches with mechanical cams, instead of electronics... very sturdy and should last you a lifetime. They are designed to stitch many layers of denim, or other thick fabrics, but can also be used for delicate quilt work.
The new machines are all electronics based and generally cost between $1000 and $3000... and are usually much lighter weight and slower speeds. If the electronics fail, they cost about $1000 to repair.
