Rolling Star Quilt Block Pattern - Fabric Postcard
Question on cutting fabric for quilt sandwiching? (making half square triangles with filler flannel?)?

I am a beginner quilter and I am confused when it says to cut the filler flannel to certain sizes... but then it says to trim the flannel to the size of the cotton fabric? (I think?) I am very confused on how to cut my fabric and do not want to make a big mistake. Help please! and thank you. 
What I am asking- exaactly what sizes are the fabrics supposed to be cut at?
You start with 1 1/8 yards of each of the first group of colors, and 1 3/8 yards of red and navy.
You take the 7 yards of filler flannel and cut it into 5 pieces that are each 1 1/8 yards and 1 peice that is 1 3/8 yards.
Note that 1 1/8 yards is about 40 inches. 1 3/8 yards is about 48 inches. The fabric, which is 40 inches wide but is usually sold folded in half, will be two peices of 20 inches if you cut of the selvage and the fold.
That's how you get the 40 x 20 inch peices (1 1/8 yard x half the width of the original cloth) and the 48 x 20 inch (1 3/8 yarx x half the width of the original cloth) flannel pieces. These will be the same size as the other fabric peices. You stack them together and cut them into squares.
