PLEASE help...jam in my elna sewing machine?!?
I'm borrowing my elna supermatic CI 62 from my aunt, it as working fine until all of a sudden, i press on the pedal and it goes for about a centimeter and then it just going rurururururur and doesn't pick up the bottom thread anymore. The bobbin is in correctly to my knowledge, and I've cleaned it out best I can, but I'm pretty sure it a bit of lint stuck in there somewhere. If i turn the wheel manually and slowly, I can go until the needle is in it's highest position and the thread take-up lever is in it's lowest position, then it gets stuck. However, if i manually turn the wheel fast, i just feel bit of resistance at said point and it keeps going . Ths is why i think it's lint. How do I get it out?!
Call your Aunt and ask her for help. Visual is always more helpful than verbal. Also, ask for the manual.
When the needle is at the highest point, the uptake lever should also be at the highest point.
It could be the thread is wrapped around the take-up lever.
When the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread, it can be a few different things - the needle is in wrong (need the manual for this, or try the flat side toward the right), or the bobbin tension is too tight.
Or, if this is a vertial bobbin machine and the bobbin case is not properly in place, the top thread may be wrapping around the pin in the center of the shuttle - this one will really stop the sewing process and appear to be a jam.
Raise the needle to it's highest position when removing or resetting the bobbin case into the shuttle.
For a vertial bobbin you can test the bobbin case tension. Put the bobbin into the case so the thread is feeding clockwise and through the tension guide on the side of the case. Hold onto just the thread end. If the bobbin drops like a yo-yo, the tension is too loose. If you have to really pull on the thread, the tension is too tight. And, if there is just a bid of tension to the thread, it is just right.
To loosen the bobbin tension, turn the screw on the side of the bobbin case to the left. To tighten, turn to the right. In a pinch, a hair clip is just the right size to use as a screw driver for this tiny screw.
