Construction Cotton Quilt
White cotton embroidered quilt, dingy from years of use. How can I clean safely?
I have a white cotton quilt that is embroidered and after many years of use by my great-grandmother (who made it) and my grandmother, it's come to me and I want to get rid of the dingy grey-brown tint it has taken on. It has been washed in a regular washing machine many, many times apparently but I'm afraid to put it in my washer or use any bleaching agents to whiten it for fear of ruining the colour of the embroidery thread. I know washing old quilts are a big no-no but this is not a fancy patch-work quilt made for show, it was made for use but is still beautiful. Any ideas?
It should be safe to wash like any other white fabric. Just (do not) use bleach. Embroidery thread is colorfast or it should be.
