Sewing Machine good for a beginner?
In recent months, I had an interest in quilting and would like to start trying to learn. My boyfriend is committed to getting me a sewing machine for Christmas. However, no sewing and craft shops in our area, or at least nothing that sells machines Sewing built in my life. The only place we've been able to find sewing machines have been in Wal-Mart. I had been admiring one called "Brother 50 stitches Computerized Sewing Machine-Limited Edition Project Runway, "but after reading the reviews on the web site of Wal-Mart, I'm rather reluctant to devote to it. After all, I am a beginner. If necessary, I'll pick my sewing machine out of an online store. I would rather have a gift of an afternoon I'm happy with either one I can not use. What kind of sewing machine would you recommend for a beginning quilter? I'd like something that you can still use years from now when I get in the seam. Thanks in advance!
The bottom line is, whatever machine you feel comfortable is the one for you. I know not very useful, but it's true. Do your research and make an informed decision. There is always someone who swears by Bernina, Singer, Viking, Janome, or whatever it is using or wanting. I've been quilting for many years, have used and owned many different machines and brands and it's all personal opinion. I had a $ 2000 Bernina and I hated it, could not get a 1 / 4 "seam (very important in the seat) to save is life. He had a $ 3000 Singer that was nothing but trouble, but $ 400 a singer that I wish I had never given her. Now I have two brothers, one Singer, Viking 1 and priced at $ 300 (Brother 6000i) - 2400 (Viking MegaQuilter) and love them all for different reasons or features. $ So I suggest research, eBay is a good source of information about the machines. Look at the different brands, prices, and capabilities of the machine. There are many eBay stores are arthuorized distributors so they can answer any questions and help with the service, if necessary. Apart from that, if you have never used a sewing machine before, simple is better. To begin quilting you need a machine that can get a 1 / 4 "Sewing needle positons are important and need forward and reverse straight stitch, zig-zag in the future, needle up / down feature is nice to have, and adjustable stitch width and length. You want something that is easy to thread, easy bobbin winding and loading, with a good working light. If you start with a beginer Singer, Viking, Pfaff, Bernina, and Janome and really like your new hobby you can do an exchange with a dealer on the road. In addition, there are many Yahoo groups in sewing / Padding. Check out these, maybe join a few and get some ideas from people who are doing exactly what you do every day (like me
