My sewing machine is messing up big time and I don't know why!?
I'm using my aunt's sewing machine to make a shirt for my friend's Christmas present. The sewing machine is a brother LS-1520. I'm using a cotton and a polyester type material. The threading in the bobbin keeps coming up black as I'm sewing occasionally and now it just started skipping entire parts of the polyester material. I would be sewing and there would just be like an inch of space without anything stitching there. I have no idea what's wrong. The tension is on five right now.
I don't have time to take the machine to be fixed because I need to have the projects done before Christmas and there aren't any placed nearby that fix sewing machines. Don't give me smart alec answers please I need serious ones.
Sounds like it needs a cleaning. If that's old gucky sewing machine oil, you might want to blot up what you can with paper towels and q-tips moistened with rubbing alcohol. The tension is also set a bit high... someplace around 4 would be typical... 3.5-4.5 assuming a shirt weight fabric.

Use only sewing machine oil, not 3-in-1 type oils (they get gummy and freeze the machine) nor WD-40 type products (they're solvents, not lubricants). Walmart will sell you a near-lifetime supply of sewing machine oil for $3. as will most fabric stores and sewing machine shops.
