What is the best sewing machine to get from Argos?
They gave me a gift card for £ 80 Argos. I'd really like a machine sewing and have started looking at a local haberdashery, but now I have this gift card and not a lot I need to Argos I feel that I should get one there. Any advice to go? I would sew simple clothes and experimenting with quilting, my 10 year old daughter who like to experiment with it as well, what should be fairly easy to use. I'm not worried about his size, but how versatile it is. You can probably spend up to £ 150 in total. Thanks

Some brands of machines use very expensive presser or property) If the budget stretches far enough - and stretch blind stitch stitch invisible stitches - Triple zigzag (nice for elastic applications) - a couple of decorative stitches (not used much as you think) - electronic machine because of the position control needle and because the stepper motors give you full "punching force" at sewing speeds - mechanical machines often will stall at low speed, please. go to the best sewing machine dealers around and ask them to show some machines in your price range, * especially * used machines you can afford. You get a much better machine buying used again, and a good dealer is worth its weight in needles of the machine when you have a machine problem - Often you can talk through the problem over the phone. While you are trying things, try a couple of machines (sewing, not combo sewing-embroidery) above your price limit, just so you can see what the difference in stitch quality and ease of use can be. You may find you want to go for the used Cadillac. Or you may want the new basic Chevy. well try both out. Could the suggested reading: John Giordano's Sewing Machine Book (especially for machines) Ahles' Fine Machine Sewing Carol (especially the last chapter and the first) and Hazen Gale Grigg Owner's Guide to Sewing Machines, machines knitting and Sergers. All these are likely to be available in the public library: it is used. Marks was particularly looking Elna, Bernina Viking / Husqvarna Pfaff, Singer (pre 1970), Juki, Toyota New "bargain brand" I'd probably pick: Janome (who also Kenmore) http://www.katedicey.co.uk/. If Kate in the UK appears here, listen to their recommendations - - I'm not familiar with Argos and the UK prices of sewing machines, but I suspect that may not be the best (least frustrating) way to go.
