Diesel contamination in a domestic washing machine?
I washed a quilted jacket liner and a rugby shirt in my Hotpoint washing machine as they were contaminated with diesel fuel from a can in the boot of my car. They still reek of diesel and seem to have passed on the contamination to the washing machine as the following load of shirts now smell of diesel too. I dare not wash anything else in the machine.
The Hotpoint advice line is closed for the weekend so I need to know how to:-
1). Decontaminate the machine and
2). Successfully clean the contaminated clothes.

Thanks very much for the answers (Paul and Alvira). Is Javex available in the UK? I've never heard of it before.
try Dawn dish soap......... if it's available in the UK it takes grease ( and OIL) out of the way and diesel is basically the same thing! just run the washer through a cycle with only hot water and Dawn dishsoap then add some softner in the rinse cycle. throw the diesel clothes back in also to get them clean too!
